Hauptaufgabe des biologischen Filtermaterials ist es, beste Ansiedlungsbedingungen für Bakterienkulturen zu bieten, sodass nach kurzer Zeit ein Bakterienrasen entsteht. Die Bakterien ernähren sich von Schmutzpartikeln aller Art und wandeln die für das Aquarium kritischen Substanzen um.
Nach der ersten Reinigung durch mechanische Filtermassen (z.B. EHEIM MECH oder MECHpro) ist die biologische Filterung das Wichtigste. Sie sorgt für klares, gesundes Wasser und stabile Wasserwerte. Deshalb haben wir viel Forschungsarbeit in die Entwicklung biologischer Filtermedien investiert.
Tipp:Nie das gesamte biologische Filtermaterial in einem Vorgang (und nie zu gründlich) reinigen oder austauschen. Die Bakterienkulturen dürfen nicht komplett zerstört werden, sonst verzögert sich die Neuansiedlung. Zur Teilreinigung sind die Filterkörbe in Außenfiltern und die Filtermodule bei den Innenfiltern aquaball und biopower ideal.EHEIM SUBSTRAT Standard Bio-Filtermedium mit großer Siedlungsfläche für Bakterienkulturen und hoher LeistungSUBSTRAT kann in einer oder mehreren Schichten aufgebaut werden. Adsorbieren bedeutet anlagern (im Gegensatz zu absorbieren = aufnehmen). Adsorptive Filtermassen sind also Materialien, die dem Wasser schädliche Substanzen entziehen und sie anlagern bzw. binden. Dabei geht es z.B. um Chlor aus dem Leitungswasser, um Reste von Medikamenten oder um Spuren von Reinigungsmitteln, Pestiziden, Farbstoffen usw.Tipp:Setzen Sie adsorptive Filtermedien nur wenige Wochen ein. Je nach Art beeinflussen chemische Filtermedien den pH-Wert und die Wasserhärte (Torf) – oder senken den Phosphatgehalt und hemmen das Algenwachstum (phosphateout).
Der pH-Wert von Leitungswasser liegt in der Regel bei 7,3 - 7,8, ist also leicht alkalisch. Die meisten Zierfische benötigen aber eher saures Wasser – also einen pH-Wert unter 7,0. EHEIM TORFpellets senken den pH-Wert und reduzieren die Wasserhärte.
Phosphate entstehen hauptsächlich durch organische Verschmutzungen des Aquarienwassers (Futterreste, Ausscheidungen usw.) und sind verantwortlich für das Algenwachstum. EHEIM phosphateout bindet das Phosphat und entfernt es aus dem Wasserkreislauf.

Nach der ersten Reinigung durch mechanische Filtermassen (z.B. EHEIM MECH oder MECHpro) ist die biologische Filterung das Wichtigste. Sie sorgt für klares, gesundes Wasser und stabile Wasserwerte. Deshalb haben wir viel Forschungsarbeit in die Entwicklung biologischer Filtermedien investiert.
Tipp:Nie das gesamte biologische Filtermaterial in einem Vorgang (und nie zu gründlich) reinigen oder austauschen. Die Bakterienkulturen dürfen nicht komplett zerstört werden, sonst verzögert sich die Neuansiedlung. Depending on which type, chemical filter media control the pH-value and the water hardness (peat) – or reduce the phosphate level and inhibit the growth of algae (phosphateout).
The pH-value of mains water lies between 7,3 and 7,8 and is therefore slightly alkaline. However, most ornamental fish require acidic water – that is a pH-value under 7,0. EHEIM TORFpellets lower the pH-value and reduce the water hardness.
Phosphates mainly occur due to organic pollutants in the aquarium water (fish remains, fish faeces etc.) and are responsible for the growth of algae. EHEIM phosphateout binds the phosphate and removes it from the water circulation.EHEIM TORFpellets Chemically acting filter peat lowers the pH-value and reduces the water hardness.EHEIM TORFpellets consist of specially treated, acidic peat. It is rich in valuable substances such as humic acids and trace elements (therefore do not wash it). Peat pellets lower (acidify) the pH-value of the water and so reduce the water hardness. The pellets should, however, only be used if the pH-value necessary for the particular type of fish is exceeded. Peat filtration is particularly suitable for tropical clear to black water.

Dabei geht es z.B. um Chlor aus dem Leitungswasser, um Reste von Medikamenten oder um Spuren von Reinigungsmitteln, Pestiziden, Farbstoffen usw.Tipp:Setzen Sie adsorptive Filtermedien nur wenige Wochen ein. Da die Schadstoffe nur anhaften, können sie sich nach einiger Zeit wieder lösen und ins Wasser zurücktransportiert werden. Zumindest ist ein regelmäßiger Austausch nötig. Aktive Filterkohle mit hohem Wirkungsgrad – besonders nach Medikamentenbehandlung EHEIM AKTIV ist säuregewaschen und für eine selbsttätige Wasseraufnahme aktiviert (aktive Oberfläche 1200 m²/g). Daher bindet diese Aktivkohle chemische Schadstoffe wie Pestizide, Medikamentenrückstände und andere Substanzen sehr schnell und lagert sie in großen Mengen an. Das Wasser im Aquarium wird kristallklar. Besonders wichtig ist der Einsatz nach einer Behandlung der Aquarienbewohner mit Medikamenten. EHEIM AKTIV sollte nur über einen beschränkten Zeitraum (ca. 4 Wochen) benutzt und danach entfernt oder ausgetauscht werden.
